2009... it was an ok year?

Journal Entry: Fri Dec 18, 2009, 7:32 PM
So, are you excited for the new year?
YEAH!

What was your favorite thing about this past year?
Finally getting out of my mom's house and going off to college.

Who was your best friend(s)?
*Phoenix-PAH , aka Penelope.

Did you fall in love this year?
No, but I stayed in love.

Did you get your heart broken?
Nope.

Did you get a new car?
Yep. Well, kind of. I got a used car as a gift.

Go somewhere exciting?
Ithaca, NY every other weekend. And college.

Did you have a resolution for this year?
I don't think so. I usually don't do "resolutions"

Did you keep it?
...

Did you dye your hair?
Nope.

Lose any friends?
I'd like to say no, but the whole distance thing and my inability to maintain relationships over Facebook is making my high school friendships near impossible to hold on to.

Make any?
One or two -embarrassed shrug-

How much do you think you changed?
I'm now quieter and more depressed.

Did you grow any?
Two words: freshman fifteen.

What month was your birthday?
April, as always.

Was it special?
Probably. Can't remember any specifics.

How were you in school?
Average. And DAMN proud.

Do anything you regret a lot?
Yep. Always manage.

Anything you regret NOT doing?
Yep.

Was it a leap year?
I don't think so?

What are you most thankful for this year?
Penelope, Jim, my cats, my camera.

Did anyone you love die this year?
I don't remember. All of the years mush together in my brain.

How many significant others did you have?
Just the one. But that doesn't mean Jim and my cats aren't significant..

Did you get in trouble alot?
Yeah, I think so. With my mom at least.

Who are you going to kiss at midnight?
Penelope, hopefully.

What is your resolution for next year?
Lose weight in a healthy and safe manner.

Who's house are you going to party at?
MINE! WOOOOO!

Going to watch the ball drop on TV?
Maybe.

Will this year be better than last year?
I hope so. These past few months have been really hard.

To all you LGBT New Yorkers...

Wed Dec 2, 2009, 9:34 PM
You STILL can't get married.

Today the NYS Senate voted 38-24 against passing a bill that would legalize gay marriage. Had it passed, we would have become the sixth state in the nation to allow same-sex couples the right to marry.

New York Times makes it sound like a soap opera: [link]

Associated Press is a bit more with the facts: [link]

<rant>

I like the Times article, though, because it has a lot of good quotes in it. It's so frustrating for me to read some of the things people said while Senate was in session and the supporters were trying to sway the vote. One lady was like, “We in government don’t determine the quality or worthiness of people’s relationships. If we did, we would not issue three-quarters of the marriage licenses we do.” (Can you imagine someone sitting at a desk in a City Hall going through stacks of marriage license paperwork? "Oops, nope this guy's too old for her... uh-oh, she's a dog person and he's a cat person, they'll never last... nope, their babies would be prettier than mine... They've only been dating for 3 years, that's not nearly long enough... Ugh, he's a photographer. He'll never be able to support a family on that salary..." )

But apparently the government can regulate who can and can't get married. If I want to marry some random guy I met yesterday in English class, we can go walk over to City Hall and get the appropriate paperwork filled out and be married by the next business day. If I want to marry a hypothetical female that I've been in a romantic relationship with for I dunno, let's say.. 26 months during which we got to know each other better, met each other's families, fell in love and decided that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together, I COULDN'T DO THAT. Not in New York State, where we can't even get the half-assed Civil Union that's so popular nowadays. But, if we go to Vermont or Connecticut or Iowa, Belgium, Canada, The Netherlands, Norway, South Africa, Spain, or Sweden and get a marriage license there, New York State will give us full benefits. WHAT. THE. FRICKING. HECK.

More info on "Same-sex Marriage": [link]
(My favorite part is the lady holding up a sign saying, "I didn't ask her to Civil Union me...")

More Aggravating Things

Mon Sep 28, 2009, 7:52 AM
I apologize to my subscribers who now have to have this long and angry post in their Messages. But I needed to vent because I'm extremely frustrated right now. And yesterday afternoon. And SDGASsldkfjsl when I was trying to fall asleep last night, too! It's not freaking cool!

-deep breath- So. Apparently this Deferio man has gotten an account on MY university's newspaper website. Firstly, WTF?! Secondly, he goes on to say that everything I said was lies (I accidentally confused his name with his friend's name, which was in all honesty, my bad), rebuts the claims I made, and then concludes with:

Those statements in kbeckma1's post should be meditated upon because, tell me, what answer do you have for them? Can you name me ONE thing natural about the homosexual sex act - JUST ONE ??? You see, there is NO genetic/biological basis for homosexuality and all of us have the power of contrary choice when we are tempted to do evil. This young woman is in rebellion against her Creator and in her heart of hearts she knows that she is doing wrong and cannot justify it outside of peer support. People follow the crowd to do all kinds of nasty things and have their mind corrupted to come to all kinds of evil and contradictory conclusions. We are all ultimately answerable to God and our friends won't be able to save us.

I apologize for confusing his name with Red Shirt Guy's, and then say:

Romantic relationships (heterosexual, homosexual and anything in between) are not solely based on "sex acts." With that in mind, I would like to point out that my relationship consists of much more, but notably the mutual desire to share a home, a bed, a family and a life with the woman I love. See, I can be a family person, too. Also, I don't think what I do in the privacy of my own home should be offered up as evidence for how "natural" the "homosexual sex act" is. But whatever they are (and I will leave that up to everyone's imaginations), they feel plenty natural to me. Furthermore, there is many more than one homosexual sex act, just as there are enough heterosexual sex acts to fill a Page-a-Day calendar.

So far my sins include being in love with another woman, lying, cheating, swearing and disrespecting my parents. I don't drink, gamble, lay with my neighbor's wife or donkey, smoke, do drugs, or hate God. And as long as God's keeping track of all of the terrible things I've done with my life, I suppose it's only fair that he should have a list of the good ones, too. And I have done plenty of good in His name, from countless service trips with my youth group throughout high school, to helping my friends through difficult times, committing random acts of kindness for strangers to openly proclaiming my affiliation with and support for the LGBT community.

It's not possible for everyone to have the same interpretation of the Bible, especially since there are so many translations and versions to choose from. I personally find that Jesus's "Golden Rule" ("Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them") provides a very good universal message to live by.

And I find it hard to believe that if I keep living my life like this, I will go to Hell.

If it is true what you say and God is willing to condemn a woman based on her decision to spend the rest of her life with another woman in a monogamous, loving relationship regardless of the good she has done, the positive change she has made in the world and the lives she has touched, then I can safely say that I have lost my faith in such a god.

What happened to the God of mercy and love? The God that loves everyone regardless of race, religion or creed? The picture of Jesus with arms outstretched reaching out to anyone who will come follow Him and His word?

I had to restrain myself from saying that there is no genetic/biological base for MMORPG's, but people still play them all day every day, get immense enjoyment out of them, and they make people feel really good about themselves. I'm sure he would have said something terrible about my godlessness in response...
